"You Don't Know My Name" is a song by American singer-songwriter Alicia Keys from her second studio anthology, The Diary of Alicia Keys. Written past Keys, Kanye Due west and Harold Lilly, and produced past Keys and West, the track was released as the anthology's atomic number 82 single on November 10, 2003. Information technology contains a sample from the 1975 song "Permit Me Prove My Honey to You", written by J. R. Bailey, Mel Kent and Ken Williams and performed by The Main Ingredient.
The vocal became Keys' third pinnacle ten hit in the United States, peaking at number iii on the Billboard Hot 100, as well equally topping the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for eight consecutive weeks, her first Pinnacle ten unmarried in both charts since 2002's "A Woman'due south Worth". Additionally, the vocal won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Vocal and a Soul Railroad train Music Award for Best R&B/Soul Single, Female. "You Don't Know My Name" was sampled on rapper Lil Wayne'south 2008 vocal "Comfortable" featuring Babyface, produced by West. Blender magazine placed the vocal at number thirty-seven on its list of "The 100 All-time Songs of 2004".[1]
Music video [edit]
Directed by Chris Robinson and Andrew Young, rapper Mos Def plays Michael Harris, Alicia's love interest, and Keys plays a waitress at a eating house. The music video follows Keys working as a waitress at a café. I day, Keys meets a man (played by Mos Def) in the café, and she falls in love with him. Later, Keys is at a house party where she runs into that same man when a fight is nigh to suspension out, and the scene resembles the business firm party scene in the film Cooley High. Later on in the video, Keys imagines getting the courage to call him and to tell him near her feelings. However, at the stop of the movie, she remembers his order but there is no other recognition and the scene ends with his card even so beingness in the basin and Keys staring out the window since she volition never exist able to reveal her true feelings for the man.
